Oasi di Montelenoni

Protected natural oasis, as Monteleoni, have the task to preserve flora as well as to promote wildlife protection, conserving their environment. Monteleoni oasis shows a natural environment with beautiful landscape, wildlife and hundreds of years old plants. Specific guided visits are organized to increase the interest of young people in environment preservation. Thus, another important aim of the oasis is to put in contact people with natural environment. The oasis management has also the goal to increase tourism in the area. The presence of wildlife has been assessed through cameratrap and then genetic monitoring has been carried out through hair collection. Wildlife monitoring has been set up as well as genetic analyses of carnivore’s scats (wild cat, marten, eagle owl). Other actions: Supervision of the area by volunteer hunting guards Censuses of permanent fauna species of most interest (e.g. woodcock) Habitat protection and conservation Scientific monitoring of wildlife Prevention measures against damages caused by wildlife Targeted projects for the study of protected species Construction of a bird observatory equipped and observation points for bird life and organization of censuses related to migration in birds Creation of publications, movies photos etc (young people targeted with particular attention to school). Hunters are directly involved in the mainteinance of paths within the oasis. All the activities listed in this document have been developed by hunters in the framework of their collaboration with the Grosseto Province.
