Title of the project

Study of the water birds population dynamics

Description

The Hunters Federation of Marne participates in the monitoring of the Common Pochard and the Tufted Duck set up by the ONCFS Migratory Birds team. This program seeks to better understand the population dynamics of these species.

The principle is based on the capture of birds to mark them with a nasal stool bearing a unique code that allows them to be recognized at a distance.

A Federation technician has been trained to capture, tag and monitor the reproduction of these birds.

45 nests were recorded in spring 2018. The “reproduction 2019” follow-up has recently started.

Better knowledge of migratory species is important for assessing the health of their populations. A better understanding will make it possible to improve their management.
