French hunters organise clean-ups
In 2012, the Somme Departmental Hunters’ Federation and the Departmental Fishing Federation organised together with several thousands of citizen volunteers a clean-up operation in their departmental region. The first “Som’propre” operation (Clean Somme) was a success. This action was organised in 2013 and again in 2016, bringing together more than 10,000 volunteers each year.
The success of this operation led to a scale-up of the project on the level of the ‘Hauts-de-France’ region since 2017. In 2019, more than 55,000 citizens are gathered more than 1,400 tonnes of waste. This was organised through the various departmental hunting federations and other associations. The real objective of the ‘Hauts-de-France propre’ operation (Clean Hauts-de-France) is not to just to collect garbage, but to raise awareness of environmental conservation by restoring the habitat of wildlife and flora.
There is a great need to improve the way we interact with our environment. Raising awareness on biodiversity problems and conservation, but also undertaking concrete actions help hunters to conserve biodiversity. Waste can create enormous problems for wildlife and biodiversity in general.
