SAGIR National Network for Wildlife Disease Surveillance
Description
SAGIR is a network for the epidemiological surveillance of birds and wild land mammals in France. It is based on a partnership between the Hunters’ Federations, the National Office for Hunting and Wildlife (ONCFS) and the Departmental Veterinary Laboratories
Its objectives are to:
– early detection of the emerging diseases for wildlife
– detect pathogens that can be transmitted to humans and/or shared by wildlife and domestic animals
– monitor the unintended acute effects of agricultural use of plant protection products on wild birds and mammals.
