The facilitation of long-term conservation of wolves, their prey base and their Slovenian habitats.

In particular, it aimed to take account of human attitudes towards the wolf in order to overcome any apparent conflicts through a Wolf Management Action Plan.

1. The project used a range of sampling techniques including innovative genetic methods and GPS telemetries were used to monitor: population size and reproductive success; habitat use and preying rate; health status; and the number and distribution of wolf packs and litters.

2. Three surveillance sessions were carried out and all information was centralised into a publically accessible internet-based portal. This information was then used to produce a Wolf Action Plan.

3. Economic analysis was undertaken comparing the costs endured by farming with/without wolf/bear defences.

4. A range of methods of media coverage were undertaken including written articles, internet articles, TV emissions and wolf conferences.

5. 2429 volunteers were trained to help with project actions. hunters worked alongside volunteers in wolf population monitoring activities.
