It is situated on one of the largest migratory flyway on the Atlantic side and has both shores and habitats which are very suitable for migratory avifauna. The site was scientific management under the responsibility of the National Office of Hunting and Wildlife, with the technical support coming from the Loire-Atlantique Departmental Hunters’ Federation. A project concerning opening up the public is being studied and includes building an observatory.

From 1999 to 2004, 178 bird species were observed on the Foundation’s property. Numerous scientific actions take place on the site each year, including: ? following the wintering and reproduction of anatides; ? botanical and faunistic inventory (avifauna, entomofauna) ? ringing of snipes (Gallinago sp. and Lymnocryptes minimus) ? upkeep of the hydraulic network (staves, ponds …); ? reed bed cutting and cutting of part of the marsh vegetation; ? willow cutting, with stump lifting; ? yellow water lily (Nuphar luteum) water weed cutting ? cow grazing on wet prairies.
