Quick Win Wijgmaalbroek related to a private forest in the Demervallei. In the course of 2012 and 2013, a recovery of habitat type 91E0 (Alluvial forest with alder and ash forests) was developed. At the start of the recovery the invasions American bird cherry (Prunus serotina) and Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) were fought. The shredded American bird cherry was reused as a litter layer. Something about 10,000 new trees (composition from European ash, Alder, Elm, Cherry trees) were planted, where hunters from the local Wild Management Unit were able to roll up their sleeves. In addition to the construction of a habitat type 91E0, three ponds were also expertly excavated, which serve as propagation pools for amphibians, including the habitat guideline species cephalopod (Triturus cristatus). Triple aim: – Restoration of a 30ha alluvial forest (Alno-Padion) belonging to 91E0 Natura 2000 biotop. – Eradication of invasive alien species Prunus serotina and Fallopia japonica – Creation of breeding place for Triturus cristatus Hunters roles: – A helping hand in planting 91E0 trees – Owner is a hunter
