Padule di Fucecchio – Il Padule che vorremmo

The aim is the restoration and maintenance of the wetland. Without appropriate actions there is a concrete risk of a wetland vanish because of natural replenishment process. Establishment of wildlife refuge (Il Tonini zone). Cutting of the marsh grasses to create open flood spaces. Reinstating of old natural irrigation channels. Planting of hedges composed of indigenous shrub species. Planting of game crops (corn and sorghum) throughout the wetland according to the principles of organic farming. Actions have been conducted in late summer period by reduced use of mechanical means and consistent use of handwork, in order to grant maximum respect and reduce any disturbance.
