Bird houses and boxes

The goal of the event is to sensitize public about the wildlife management/conservation and about the role of the hunters. Hunters build and put bird boxes to suitable places.

They also provide some hunting clubs with boxes. Usually boxes are build for game bird species, e.g. goldeneye (Bucephala clangula), but also for smaller birds. Finnish Hunters’ Association has organised bird house events called Pönttöpäivät.

Every year hunters make at least tens of thousand bird houses. Concerned species: Mainly game bird species. Habitat type: people can basically put houses to anywhere, but mainly to the areas where birds live, especially near lakes.
