The members of the Hunting Club ‘Kuna’ Đurđenovac, in cooperation with the Hunting Association of Osijek-Baranja County, have developed a project titled ‘Hunters, Friends of Children,’ and invited and hosted students from the Special Education Class and the Educational Group of J. J. Strossmayer Primary School in Đurđenovac at the hunting lodge.”
Through a brief conversation, we introduced the teachers, students, and their assistants to the club’s activities, as well as to the numerous wild animals that inhabit the hunting grounds managed by the club. This year, the club celebrated its 71st anniversary and currently has 24 active hunters, including one female hunter.
All attendees listened with great interest to the importance of nature conservation, caring for wildlife, the food hunters prepare and bring to the hunting grounds, and various other related topics.
As part of the visit, an educational and artistic workshop was held, with the main theme being animal care. The students eagerly participated in creative expression by painting wild animals and placing their drawings of animals in their habitats on a large board, decorating various other drawings, and wooden birdhouses. We then filled the birdhouses with food and placed them around the hunting lodge.
The hunting lodge was filled with educational posters about hunting dogs, game management facilities, an exhibition of hunting equipment, as well as a display of paintings depicting animals that live in Croatia.
The goal of the project was to avoid misconceptions and stereotypes about hunting and the hunting world through a conversation between hunters and students about their favorite topic—animals.
